Today in Habs History: November 17th Edition

1932: When the Detroit Red Wings met the Montreal Canadiens for the first time in the season there was a problem: both teams had nearly identical red jerseys! The Wings were forced to wear white pullovers in a 1-0 loss. George Hainsworth recorded his 68th career shutout.

 

 

1946: Toe Blake scored the 5th (and final) hat trick of his NHL career as Montreal won 4-1 over the Boston Bruins.

 

1969: The Canadiens trade the rights to Jean Potvin, a 2nd round pick and a 3rd round pick in 1970 to the Los Angeles Kings for a 2nd round pick , a 3rd round pick and a 4th round pick in 1970.

 

 

1970: Henri Richard scored two goals and added two assists to lead the Canadiens to a 5-1 win over the Oakland Seals.

 

 

1979:  Guy Lafleur began a team-record 12 game assist streak as Montreal won 3-1 over the Los Angeles Kings.

 

 

1984: Steve Penney recorded the only regular season shutout of his NHL career, and Mats Naslund scored two goals and an assist in the Canadiens' 5-0 win against the New Jersey Devils.

 

 

2001: Jose Theodore recorded his 9th career shutout, and Karl Dykhuis scored the winning goal at 3:55 of overtime as Montreal won 1-0 against the visiting Florida Panthers. The Canadiens outshot the Panthers 45-23.
