Today in Habs History: April 28th Edition

Today marks Step One complete in the Montreal Canadiens quest for the Stanley Cup, in 1993. On this night the Habs moved onto the Adams Division Finals with a 6-2 win over the Quebec Nordiques. After falling behind 2-0 in the series, the Canadiens battled back, winning the next four games.

 

Paul DiPietro, playing in his 3rd playoff game, had 3 goals and added an assist to lead the Canadiens in scoring. DiPietro found himself in the line-up, following an injury to Stephan Lebeau.

 

Sadly, it was the last time the Canadiens and Nordiques, who had made the post-season for the first time since 1987,  would meet in the playoffs.

1968: Rookie Jacques Lemaire scored at 2:14 of OT, to give the Canadiens a 4-3 win over the Black Hawks, in Game Five of the Stanley Cup Semi-Finals, in Montreal. The win advanced the Canadiens to the Stanley Cup Finals for the fourth straight year.

1978: The Hockey Hall of Fame announced that Montreal Canadiens GM and VP Sam Pollock would be inducted in the Builders category.

 

1983: Serge Savard becomes GM of the Canadiens.

 

1987: Ryan Walter scored twice as the Canadiens won 3-2 against the Quebec Nordiques, in Game 5 of the Adams Division Finals. Here’s a link to the game.

 

2010: Jarolsav Halak makes 41 saves, and Dominic Moore had the game winning goal as the Habs defeated the Washington Capitals 2-1, in Game Seven of the Eastern Conference Quarter-Finals. The Canadiens, who finished eighth in the conference, rallied back from a 3-1 series deficit.
