Ken and Dave Dryden shake hands at centre ice, following their historic meeting 3/20/1971

Dave Dryden told me once that on the eve of this historic meeting, his little brother Ken offered to go out for dinner. The rookie, tight with his money, took him to Harvey’s.

1928: George Hainsworth recorded his 12th shutout of the season (and the 26th of his career) and Howie Morenz scored his 6th career hat trick and added an assist in the Canadiens' 5-0 win over the New York Americans.

1948: Maurice Richard scored his 14th career hat trick, and Elmer Lach had three assists to lead the Canadiens to a 7-4 win against the Chicago Black Hawks. The Canadiens set a team record that night with three shorthanded goals in the game.

1956: The Rocket extended his Stanley Cup record with his fifth career playoff hat trick (and his 10th career playoff game-winning goal) as the Canadiens won 7-1 over the New York Rangers, in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Semi-Finals.

1971: NHL history was made as two brothers faced each other in goal for the first time ever. Ken Dryden's and the Canadiens beat Dave Dryden's Buffalo Sabres 5-2 at the Montreal Forum.

1974: Jacques Lemaire scored a goal and added three assists, in Montreal’s 7-6 loss to the Detroit Red Wings.

1977: Guy Lafleur scored a goal to set an NHL record, with a point in his 23rd consecutive game, a 6-1 Canadiens' win over the St. Louis Blues. Lafleur broke the previous mark of points in 22 straight games, set by Bronco Horvath in 1960.

1978: Lafleur became the 7th player in franchise history to score 300 goals. The milestone came as Montreal won 5-1 against the Vancouver Canucks. Steve Shutt scored twice in the first period to give him 200 career NHL goals.

1993: Kirk Muller scored a goal and added three assists, and Patrice Brisebois picked up the 9,000th NHL goal in Montreal franchise history, in a 6-2 Canadiens' win over Chicago. Earlier that day, the Canadiens obtained defenseman Rob Ramage from the Tampa Bay Lightning, in exchange for Eric Charron, Alain Cote and future considerations (Donald Dufresne, sent in June of 1993).
