1919: Montreal Canadiens' star Joe Hall succumbs to pneumonia, related to the Spanish Flu outbreak that ended the 1919 Stanley Cup Finals between Montreal and the Seattle Metropolitans four days earlier.
1970: Montreal finished the 1969-70 regular season in a fourth place tie with the New York Rangers. But the Rangers had scored two more goals during the regular season, knocking Montreal out of the playoffs for the first time in 22 years.
A look back at the events of that weekend, from a post I did in 2010.
1973: Yvan Cournoyer scored a hat trick and added an assist as the Canadiens won 7-3 over the Buffalo Sabres in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Quarter-Finals.
1975: Jacques Lemaire scored twice and added three assists, Glen Sather picked up four assists and Serge Savard had two goals and an assist as the Montreal Canadiens won 10-2 over the Washington Capitals.
1986: Mats Naslund had three assists as Montreal won 4-2 over the Sabres. The three assists gave him 67 for the season, a new NHL record for left wings. He broke the old mark of 65 shared by John Bucyk and Michel Goulet.
1987: Kjell Dahlin scored his second (and final) career hat trick to lead Montreal to an 8-2 win against the Rangers.
1989: Larry Robinson played in an NHL record-tying 17th consecutive year in the playoffs, when Montreal beat the Hartford Whalers 6-2 in Game 1 of the Adams Division Semi-Finals. Robinson tied the record set by Brad Park.
1995: The Canadiens obtained Pierre Turgeon and Vladimir Malakhov from the New York Islanders, in exchange for Kirk Muller, Mathieu Schneider and Craig Darby.
