1928: Canadiens' goalie George Hainsworth and Joe Miller dueled to a 0-0 scoreless tie, in a game played at Pittsburgh. It was the 29th career shutout for Hainsworth.
1947: Maurice Richard scored his 12th career hat trick but the Canadiens lost to the visiting New York Rangers, 5-3. The Rangers scored four goals in the third against back-up Gerry McNeil, after Bill Durnan was injured in the second period.
1952: Maurice Richard scored two goals within :25 during the second period to lead the Canadiens to a 2-2 tie, with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
1968: The Canadiens trade Jean-Guy Lagace and cash to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Larry Hillman.
1979: Pierre Larouche scored his 6th career hat trick and added two assists, and Michel Larocque recorded his 15th career shutout as Montreal won 7-0 against the Winnipeg Jets.
2003: The Canadiens beat the Oilers 4-3 at the first outdoor game in NHL history, the Heritage Classic. The game was played before a record crowd of 57,167 fans in Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium.
2008: The Canadiens retired Patrick Roy’s #33 sweater.
