The Canadiens clinched Stanley Cup no. 23 on this day in 1986. Bobby Smith provided the game winner, as Montreal defeated the Calgary Flames 4-3, in Game Five of the Finals.
Twenty-year-old rookie Patrick Roy was named winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP, the youngest winner in League history. Mats Naslund led the Canadiens in playoff scoring with 19 points, while rookie Claude Lemieux led the team in goals with 10.

1956: The Canadiens sold Ken Mosdell, Eddie Mazur and Bud MacPherson to the Chicago Black Hawks for $35,000 with Montreal holding right of recall. The Canadiens would recall all three players in September.
1966: Jacques Laperriere was named the winner of the NHL's Norris Trophy, as the league's best defenseman in the 1965-66 season.
1993: Brian Bellows and Vincent Damphouse each had a goal and two assists to lead the Canadiens to a 5-2 win, over the New York Islanders, in Game Five of the Walse Conference Finals. The Habs won the series in five games.
